In 1924 Dr Roger McNeill, Medical Officer of Health for Argyllshire presented to Edinburgh University Library the library of Donald Mackinnon (1839-1914), first Professor of Celtic in the University of Edinburgh (the Chair endowed by Professor John Stuart Blackie). The collection comprises some 1,700 19th century books and pamphlets on a wide range of Celtic studies and Scottish theology. It is listed in the pre-1985 guard-book catalogue, and an author catalogue of it and the Cameron Collection is available on request in the Special Collections Department.
