In
the wake of the Robbins Report (1961) on higher education, the University
expanded fast. The Main Library in George Square, the largest academic
library building in Europe, opened to readers in 1967.
Automated procedures were introduced during the 1980s.
The
Library acquired papers and libraries of modern Scottish poets, and
other writers, and established the University Archives on a formal footing.
