Bruce Alexander Stenhouse
|
Mr Stenhouse
maintained his interest in military history, especially maritime and naval
history and the history of coastal defence. After his death in 1991 Mrs
Jean Stenhouse presented to the University Library her husband's collections
of papers and books on naval history and coastal defences. This timeously
coincided with the establishment of the Centre for Second World War Studies
in the University's School of History, and with the Scots at War Project
in the Institute of Advanced Studies in the Humanities. The books are
being listed in the online catalogue and shelved where they will be put
to best use.
Mr Stenhouse's papers are held in the Special Collections Department,
where they can be consulted via a Handlist compiled by Miss Ierne Grant,
the sister of another former Firth of Forth battery commander, Dr Douglas
Grant. Mr Stenhouse's papers have been joined by those of Major
Gerard Sandeman, which have been gifted to the Library by Mrs Sandeman. (Portrait photograph by kind permission of Mrs Jean Stenhouse) |
